It's a rare treat to pick up a book by an author unknown to you and be immediately drawn into the world he creates. FOSGATE'S GAME was a pleasure to read. Chadwick and Fosgate are perfectly matched to play this macabre game of supernatural chess. Fosgate is cold and calculating, and makes no excuses for his brutality when it comes to building his business empire. Chadwick is reluctantly drawn into Fosgate's vicious plans and is unable to extricate himself until he finds a very creative (and satisfying) way to draw the game to a close.Great characters, great story, great writing. Highly recommended.

Fosgate Game David C Cassidy 9781512358995 Books Reviews
The storyline was interesting and I really enjoyed it, but I was most impressed with the author's writing ability. Mr. Cassidy's writing was so tight it was as if he chose every single word with great forethought. There were no useless fillers in this tale.
The setting was perfect--a stormy night with two men sitting around playing a game that not only is evil, but deadly. Sounds like a tale straight out of a Stephen King or Dean Koontz book... only the writing was much better.
I believe David Cassidy could write in any genre and have you glued to the pages. His talent is that amazing.
Thanks for such an enjoyable read. I'm ready for the next one!
Great story! Though I do enjoy suspense, I rarely read horror or thrillers but this one kept calling my name, so I just decided to give it a shot, thinking I probably wouldn't be able to finish it. I was so wrong. I couldn't put the story down! Great writing, strong characters and an intriguing storyline that hooked me and wouldn't let me go. A really good story, but read it with the lights on and when the sun is shining... Highly recommend!!
I was so sorry to see this story end! I was hooked from the getgo (get go, get-go?). In any case, Fosgate's Game was the best. At the end of the book, I was invited to join a the David C. Cassidy Reading Group, and I must say, I felt privileged to hear from the author personally. He seems a great guy -- gracious and interested in his readers. And, like a good many artists, he's multitalented -- offering great photography as well as writing.
This story is so deliciously scary! While reading it every little noise in the house makes you look over your shoulder to make sure there's nobody there.
This is the kind of story where you know Chadwick (the main character) is going to do IT, but you still keep hoping.and saying, "Don't do it!" And then the author cranks up the suspense another notch and you know Fosgate (the antagonist) is going to do IT, and you say, "Stop!" And the author cranks it up again and again and again until you're breathless and can't say anything. When it finally ends, you want to clap your hands and say, "I survived!"
If you love scary horror stories with a dash of H.P. Lovecraft thrown in, this is for you!
Fostgate's Game. A perfect stormy night. A crackling fire. Two chess players at odds with each other. All's fair in chess and war. A rigged game? Or a descent into madness? Much like Velvet Rain, Mr. Cassidy's first novel, Fosgate's Game offers a thrilling narrative, a superb imagery of words to canvas. Psychologically complex, it is a glimpse into the occult, imaginatively written, and totally entertaining.
FOSGATE'S GAME was an excellently conceived and written novella that actually captures that lightning in a bottle that fewer horror novels seem to be able to do. That lightning is the ability to actually, like 70's and 80's, even 90's Stephen King tales, strike fear while reading. Make a chill go up your spine in that pleasant way. Certainly doesn't hurt that Cassidy is a wordsmith with the ability to take a horror novel up the literary ladder, without losing its genre. Excellent, quick read.
This novella written with vivid writing got off to a slow start for me, but once I became engaged, I didn't put it down.
As in Mr. Cassidy's novel, Velvet Rain, I was immersed into the story using all the senses. I smelled the brandy, saw the room light up from the lightning, and felt the warmth of the fire. I got pulled along unwillingly into a story I suspected would not be pleasant for the characters, but I couldn't stop reading as I had to know what will happen to them.
The paranormal element in this book is written in a way I believed it might've actually have happened.
The ending I found very satisfying. I look forward to Mr. Cassidy's next story.
