For Mercy Cross, being a fated death oracle has its perks. Knowing when and how someone will bite the dust and being able to prevent it is always a rush. Not being able to save herself from her own grisly end is a bit of a downer, but hey, look for that silver lining where you can, right?

Mercy's glass-is-half-full view of life is challenged when her attempts to save a mysterious red headed hunter backfires and she becomes temporarily blood bound to a New Orleans vampire. Embroiled in a political power struggle among the city's vampire contingent and hunted down by the very woman she saved, Mercy is left to wonder if surviving this nightmare is worth the agony of living through it.

Mercy Bound Bound In Blood Book 1 eBook Karen Plaisance

Has the author no experience in the correct use of words? Mercy Bound is a relatively interesting book but the reader is brought up short time and time again by the misuse of words in almost every chapter. High heals instead of highheels. Dieing instead of dying. Affect and Effect. Their instead of they're. These are only four of the MANY misusages in this book. I am almost convinced that so many errors in the use of words must be intentional. Certainly spellcheck would have caught some of the errors. Theses instead of These. The story suffered from the constant "whoa" factor when such mistakes stopped the reader from continuing to digest the story line and that made it less than enjoyable. If the author has no-one to proofread her output, I strongly suggest she find someone with experience in reading and usage. If there are any grammarians wondering about whether to buy this book or not, I suggest not. It's just too frustrating to be stopped every time an error leaps up and hits the reader in the face.

Mercy Bound Bound In Blood Book 1 eBook Karen Plaisance Reviews

Mercy Bound by Karen Plaisance
Mercy is a Death Oracle. When she touches someone, she can tell how they are most likely to die. She is also fated her death cannot be prevented. She knows when and how she'll meet her death, as well as whom the killer is, but there is nothing she can do to change her fate. She can warn those who aren't fated and they can change something in their lives (for instance, wearing a helmet if they are to die because they were too stupid to wear a helmet), but for her there is no such hope.
Mercy is nearing her time to die and wants to be near her aunt, her only remaining family member, for her remaining years. Needing a job, she travels to New Orleans (even though her aunt, a powerful witch, has forbidden her to go into the city) to apply for a job at Amaranthus, a vampire-owned night club. Being a fated death oracle carried its own set of problems. Being a fated death oracle wanted by the "grand poobah" of New Orleans makes those problems seem almost insignificant.
Mercy's attempt at getting a job sets off a chain of events that keep the pages turning.
Karen Plaisance has created a heroine of serious complexity, as well as of amusing false immaturity. Mercy is fated to die, thus has learned the importance of each second. This makes her often overly inclined (it seems to those of us not knowingly fated) to help others, even when they may not deserve it. Mercy is also snarky, which provides a lot of welcome humor.
The hero, Adam, is a stand-up guy, who goes to bat for a person he doesn't even know. Such altruistic behavior is in extremely short supply in today's society. Adam is grim, quiet, dependable, and trustworthy. Plaisance has created characters that become real in such a way that if there is no sequel, this reviewer will be most perturbed.
I received this unedited copy through Goodreads' Read for Review Program in exchange for an honest review.
Mercy is a Death Oracle. Being a Death Oracle has its advantages, and disadvantages as well. Not only can Mercy determine the death of others, she also knows the fate that awaits her. She decides to go home to her aunt, and spend her short time with the only family she has left. Hunting for a job, she finds herself thrust into a power struggle between vampires, and the vampires would be at a great advantage having power over a Death Oracle. It seems the peace Mercy was wanting will have to wait.

I liked Mercy's character. She really marches to the beat of her own drum. Although she is sarcastic, and can at times do little childish things she gets stuff done and takes a lot upon herself. She isn't afraid to stand up in the face of adversity, and although time for her is short, instead of enjoying the time she has left, she puts herself out there to do what is right. Adam is a vampire that doesn't like being a vampire. He has to follow the vampire hierarchy, but hates every second of it. He and Mercy have no choice but to forge a shaky partnership. The two are total opposites in every way, but I found myself wanting something more between the two.

I found that I really liked the premise of the book. The whole idea of a Death Oracle was really intriguing to me. The novel had plenty of action and exciting twists that constantly had the reader wondering who the victims were and who were the villains. There were parts of the book that moved slowly for me, but this does tend to happen sometimes in books that are the first of the series. There were a lot of characters to meet, because of this I felt like I had information overload.

The book's title and cover led me to think that the read would have elements of erotica. No erotica here! This novel would be appropriate for the older young adult. I would rate it for around age 17 and up because there is language and violence.

Plaisance has given readers a good beginning to the Bound by Blood Series. I was hoping for a little more romance, but at the same time I love the suspense of what is coming in Mercy and Adam's future, because it is quite apparent these two are not over by a long shot. I will be looking forward to the next book!

I agree this book was very similar to other books of the same genre, but I liked it still. It was an easy read.
